The Day UP DIED.
2008 THE - QS Wold University Rankings ranked UP 22 notches below Ateneo. Ateneo de Manila University ranked 254th and UP landed on 276th place. This is so SAD. UP, study na tayo! Kahit alam natin hindi nagpapadala ng information/data ang UP, this will be another bragging rights for Ateneo.

ATENEO: 2008 UAAP BASKETBALL inagaw sa DLSU, pati ba naman ang pagiging TOP UNIVERSITY SA PILIPINAS aagawin niyo sa UP? huhu.

This is absolutely outrageous.
Actually, we don’t have to study to beat Ateneo next year. We just have to update our statistics. Haha.
…
o.O
Now that I mention it, I realize that the school statistics are horribly messed up. Ateneo has data on everything: students, faculty, undergraduate information, graduate/postgraduate information, graduate output, and entry requirements. Six in total. UP, on the other hand, has data in only TWO fields: students and faculty. SIX versus TWO. HA! No wonder Ateneo beat us. Our data are two years old! They were submitted on August 31, 2006, which makes them practically unreliable! Theirs haven’t even reached the four-month mark, with the earliest submission on June 30, 2008! What say you, huh?
As far as I’m concerned, the criteria are STUPID. Academic Peer Review? Employer Review? Faculty to Student Ratio? Citations Per Faculty? International Factors? EGAD!
The first two are frigging SUBJECTIVE. They’re freaking ONLINE SURVEYS, for crying out loud! Is making use of such opinion-dependent data even LEGAL?
References to academic publications in other academic papers are nice and all, but the data gathered from these may still be faulty. Again, UP’s data are TWO YEARS OLD. This means that all citations made after 2006 were all DISREGARDED. Ateneo, on the other hand, had an advantage of TWO YEARS’ WORTH OF DATA! TWO BLEEPING YEARS!
The IS/F count and the faculty-to-student ratio are also outdated by two years. We were again a victim of data recycling. ACK!
We must persuade the UP president to submit our school’s statistics next year. Seriously.
Ack!

BTW, La Salle and UST made it to the top 500 after all. Check the site again. They’re on the 401-500 list. ^^
Apparently, UP is the only Philippine university which failed – or, more appropriately, did not bother – to submit data this year. That’s why we did horribly in the QS ranking. Tch.

it would only be horrible if we ranked second , even if we submitted the statistics.
so wala talagang bragging rights ang ateneo, dahil we are using outdated data!
and ranking 276 with two year old incomplete statistics is something, panu pa kaya pag inupdate pa natin yan, baka ma-threaten na ang Ivy League (LOL)
Magandang balita ang pagbabalik ng Big 3 + UST (wag nang ipilit na 4 peace tau)sa top 500 dahil ibig sabihin umaangat na ang sistema ng edukasyon sa pinas!
So mga isko at iska, maging proud pa sana tau sa nakuha natin with two year old incomplete data.
And Chancellors Cao and Arcadio, please lang paki-update na ang data natin, para tumigil na ang mga maling assumptions.
