010. Leadership Forum

Were you able to watch ABS-CBN's First Leadership Forum last Sunday or last May 11? If not, then here's your second chance. I mean, our second chance. Let's all watch the Second Round of the Leadership Forum on June 5, 7pm at the University of the Philippines School of Economics Auditorium.
It's a battle between Estrada, Lacson, Legarda and Binay. The event is open to the public but seating arrangement is on a first come-first served basis.
Sino sasama? Pupunta talaga ako. :)

011. MaSci
My younger brother, Arvin Arguelles is now a MaScian. Yess! HAHA. And I'm a bit nostalgic. He told me his first ever MaSci experience and i quickly recalled mine. Grabe. Miss ko MaSci.
"As we gather, may Your spirit work within us ..."
And a new subject for first years? Consumer's Mathematics. Ano kaya 'to? Math na naman. Gah.

001-005
001. Tony Blair delivered a speech in Ateneo. Tell you what. Its free and open for the public. Grrr. Well, open for the Ateneo public.
He also delivered a speech in Sofitel. This one for La Salle. And the seats here are quite expensive, no, expensive pala talaga.
SAD. Ang underprivileged at unfortunate talaga ng mga UP students sa ganitong bagay. :|
***
002. Nakakaluha. I watched the video of Indayog's Nike Competing Team. Galing! And I misssss dancing. What made me sad eh yung video by Kuya Bab. Aww.
***
003. I can't sleep well because of the effing MATH 11. Arrrg. Grabe! This one will be an epic failure for me, if ever!
***
004. My UP Manila Webmail account is already working. HAPPPPPPPY!
***
005. I hate those who underrate UP Manila. Really. And what's so surprising is that those people that I'm talking about are currently in UP Manila. They'll be shifting in Diliman next semester. I hope they get in there. I don't want them here naman.
And another thing, they also hate Political Science. Well, I have nothing against to those who hate PolSci. What made me hate them is that they are in PolSci right now. EFF.

Today’s Extremes
Philo and Math
Earlier this day, our philosopy 1 professor showed us our pre-final grade. Chedeng! I got a grade that is 0.25 short for an "uno." One of my coursemates told me that its the highest na in our class. Ansaya di'ba? :D Then came the result of our second departmental examination in Math 11. I almost forgot I'm a deist. HAHAHA. Yeaaa! ( Sa lahat ata ng pagkakataon na makapag-wish ako, tres lang sa math 11 ang hiling ko.) It came out that i got a score that is half of the passing score. (Grr, bobo ko sa Math 11). And I suddenly realized how extremes my grades are. Sa tingin niyo? Gawwd! TRESSSS! XD The thoughts of taking Math 11 again horrifies me, ayoko maging irreg at ang doomed talaga ng dating sakin. Hays.
Tony Blair Visits Manila
Tony Blair, former prime minister of UK, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, head of the Labour Party in England, and currently UK's special envoy to the Middle East will be visiting Manila this coming March 23 for a speech regarding the functions of a leader as a peace negotiator that was arranged by Campaigns and Grey and De La Salle University-Manila as part of their International Bridge Program.
Event's venue is in Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Manila. Ticket price? 25, 00 pesos for VIP seats and 1500 pesos for the farthest seat in the general admission area. WTF. 25, 000 pesos? Ang mahal. 1, 500. Mahal pa rin. If they really want to be a good leader, they should at least, make theirseleves heard by the general populace. Dapat man lang may 200 peso or 300 peso ticket or libre na lang! HAHA. And for your 25, 00o pesos, you'll get to hear Tony Blair's rantings for 30 minutes. Grrr. Baka 30 days mong inipon yun tapos 30 minutes ubos na? Ang extreme talaga ng lahat sa isang capitalist system.Ticket! Ticket! Ticket! Gimme some!
Solidaridad and Doulos
I visited MV Doulos, the largest floating bookshop, to buy some books. Malamang, bookshop di'ba? I'm expecting great finds and rare titles. It is also my dream to collect works of Michael Crichton and Fidel Castro. At parang pagdating ko dun eh, non-existent silang lahat! Doulos offers a lot of spiritual and inspirational books, story and coloring books for kids but only little of interesting fictions and rare titles. I bought 3 books there for 200 pesos. One is about marketing strategies of schools, churches and museums (Branded Nation), the other one regarding the end of the world (Fused Armaggedon) and the last disproving all forms of established knowledge (The Last Man Who Knew Everything). Sulit naman ang 10 pesos na entrance fee sa pictures around the vessel and sa one hour seat sa balcony. Takot nga lang ako sa ship, so nahilo talaga ako after. XD

Before visiting Doulos, I visited a bookshop in Padre Faura Street. Its the Solidaridad Bookshop which is considered as the best little bookshop in Asia. Though very small compared to MV Doulos, it offers a lot of more interesting titles and I think, rare books than what Doulos can offer. Nag-browse ako sa shelves and everything is worth buying and reading. Every single book there is super nakaka-excite basahin. There are books discussing politics, economics, sociology, literature and even history of neighboring countries. Bakit di ako bumili ng kahit ano? Because every single book under the roofs of Solidaridad is expensive. Minimum na ata ang 700 pesos eh, or may nakita pa akong 600 pesos dun. Still, kahit ano pa man, expensive pa rin. Hays, sayang. SANTA, mag-iba ka naman ng schedule ng pamimigay ng gifts. Please?

Doulos being on the far left because it offers alot of cheap books and Solidaridad being on the far right because it offers books that are expensive are another example of today's extremes. I seem to notice extremities in my environment and it includes these two bookshops.
Bonifacio/Katipuan Monument
Alam niyo ba yung Bonifacio/Katipunan accross SM Manila? Its near LRT's Central Terminal, Manila City Hall and Universidad de Manila. Try niyong dumaan kapag gabi. You see alot of extremes. Yeap. Extremes in publicly displaying affection. Shocks, french kiss kung french kiss. At kahit maraming nakatingin, hindi nabobother. HAHAHAHA. :D
Chillax!

I Challenge Atenistas and La Sallistas
Tony Meloto, Gawad Kalinga president, in a lecture/speech/seminar with the Association of Parents and Counselors of the University of the Philippines Manila provides insights in the growing issues/controversies of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines final game between the DLSU Green Archers and the ADMU Blue Eagles.
In his speech, he discusses his programs for Gawad Kalinga, a non-governmental organization established to promote housing to the poor's and homeless. Building villages, GK proved to be successful as it promotes partnership to big corporations, politicians and religious and civic groups.
He inserted a short opinion of him regarding the P20, 000 ticket sold but originally bought as P325. This, according to him is stupidity and an act of displaying elitism as he quoted an article from the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
What is best about his speech is this:
"I challenge Ateneo and La Salle, paramihan ng matatayong bahay. Let them do something good for the nation. Instead of going to Araneta and fighting for something that is absurd, let them continue the fight with a noble cause. Siugurado ako, mapupuno ang Pilipinas ng berde at asul na village. I can visualize thousands of La Salle Green Archers Villages and thousands from the Ateneo Blue Eagles alike."
"I challenge Ateneo and La Salle to build a home for UP students, the UP students to be teachers without wages, and other universities to contribute to the betterment of our country."

29th Manila International Book Fair
[chenelyn of "Chenelyn, Chenelyn!"]
It is my first time to see a book fair. Although I always see exhibits such as IFEX, CFEX and F.A.M.E, these exhibits were always held in the World Trade Center, kaya it's also my first time to see (as in go inside) SMX Convention Center.
Book Fair
Lots of good publishing companies/bookstores/institutions are there, my favorites includes the UP Press, Ateneo Press, UST Publishing House, Anvil Publishing, National Book Store, Powerbooks, National Historical Institue, St. Pauls, Summit Media, Ibon Foundation, and Adarna Books. ( adarna:nostalgic ) There are 123 exhibitors kaya magsasawa ka talaga!
Most of the books are expensive, not-that-expensive, i'm just expecting cheap prices since it is a fair. Good thing i found bargain hard-bound books from National Bookstore, I bought one, "The Lost Constitution by William Martins." A "K-Zone Mag" for my brothers, "Cosmopolitan" for my mom and "Witch" for my friend from Summit Media naman. Those three magazines cost 100 pesos lang! Pero back issues. :D The two major bookstores, Powerbooks and National Bookstore made a 20 percent off in all of their items. I found three good books, babalikan ko na lang sila!
Ateneo Press and UP Press offers good books though Ateneo's products are not cheap. Controversial mostly and laman ng Ibon Foundation's booth pero ansarap basahin eh, UPng UP ba! :D
SMX CONVENTION CENTER
Since it's my first time ren dun sa venue, i'll dedicate a section of my post na rin. SMX in the outside is impressive, the architectural designs are good! I think fiber glass walls are good talaga for exhibit venues eh, they create an ambience of a corporate world at classy rin! The location of the venue is medyo inaccessible lalo na sa mga commuters since you really have to walk from the jeepney/taxi stop para makarating sa entrance. Or you can enter MOA na lang, at magpalamig habang nag tratravel. Air-conditioning is not that good kasi in other parts of the exhibit hall, naiinitan ako, dapat super centralized yung lamig ah!
A: Mainit dahil maraming tao!
Cleve: Exhibit hall nga eh, fair nga di ba? Malamang madami talaga ang tao kaya nga dapat malakas ang AC nila.
A: Sabi ko nga. Oo na nga.
The over-all physical look, ayos naman. Pero ang mga security guards at ang kanilang method of checking bags is not good. Haha. Ang disrespectful nung guard biglang hinahatak yung bag at manual airport type machine security checking sila! Yung parang ilalagay mo yung bag mo para ma x-ray sya tapos aantayin mo, ganon rin sa kanil except for being manual nung kanila. The restroom is very conventional, walang bago. Yung escalator, awesome! Ang taas nya talaga!
Enjoy the images. (Phone pics lang)
