Few notes on the UPM Welcome Ceremonies and CAS Orientation
I attended the Welcome Ceremonies for First Year students of UP Manila for the third time. Yung una ay yung first year pa ako. The second time naman, I'm an FBC na. And for this time, FBC again plus ASAP-Katipunan. This year's Welcome Ceremonies is a bit different (the seating arrangement, Chancellor's speech and the program). But the change's for the better naman.
Few notes:
I led the LR of ASAP-Katipunan for this year's Welcome Ceremonies! Thrilling! :D This year's LR focuses on challenging the Aquino administration to jail PGMA and to prioritize the education sector. It was fun! But more than the experience, naipahatid natin ang paghamon natin sa mga bagong Iskolar ng Bayan. Naging maganda pa ang pagtanggap and they're doing their own research about "TOFI." Good! Marami tayong haharapin this year Isko and Iska! :D
I attended this year's College Orientation of CAS this year for the third time rin. Yung ikatlo, bilang isang council member sa CAS Student Council. This year's CO is so different! UP ROTC to give a speech/lecture/discussion/seminar. Nakakagulat lang! Napakahaba ng naging pagtatanghal ng UP ROTC. Few notes on this note: Nakakapagtaka lang. Military spending versus education spending? Could have been a tuition fee of another freshie student na hirap financially. Could have stopped the increase in tuition fee. Another note. Bulok ang mga gamit and most of the equipments including the classrooms were old. Pero bakit sa ROTC, kumpleto? Judging from the slideshow of pictures that they've showed, kumpletong-kumpleto at bago ang mga kagamitan. From the different types of guns, tanks and other artillery materials, well-equipped sila. Keep this in mind people, education is our key to success. How much is a gun? How much is a tank? How much yung cannon na yun? Sana pang tuition fee na lang.
Can't help but rant. Can't help but tell this truth. Why are we not prioritizing spending on the education sector? And judging from Aquino, nothing will change. This will just be business as usual. Another six years of suffering. Let's do something. Are you one with me?

Risa Hontiveros is Not My Senator.
Why?
On Education
AKBAYAN Rep. Risa Hontiveros and their allied youth groups in the different State Universities and Colleges are widely known for their anti-student stand on the issue of tuition and other fee increases. Closer to us, AKBAYAN and their allied youth groups in UP has taken the side of the administration in the issue of tuition and other fee increases. They are for the passing of the 300% TOFI in UP.
Hontiveros and her partylist believe that government spending on education is low. They are insisting that the government should prioritize education and follow UNESCO’s recommendation of allocating the 6 percent of GNP to education spending. BUT. But they were not there when students were fighting for a higher state subsidy. Another lip-service. Instead of uniting with the students in their call for a higher state subsidy, they are “parroting” the line of the administration that TOFI is just timely.
MY SENATOR SHOULD RECOGNIZE OUR RIGHT TO EDUCATION. RISA HONTIVEROS IS NOT MY SENATOR.
On Student’s Rights
She co-authored the fake Magna Carta of Students or the Student’s Rights and Welfare Bill. Instead of protecting the interests, rights and welfare of the students, the bill will limit these things. They continue to lobby this inside the Congress and in other schools through different activities. Deception. Last time I checked, “no one” attended the STRAWBS forum in UP Manila last year.
MY SENATOR SHOULD RECOGNIZE AND PROMOTE THE DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS OF STUDENTS. RISA HONTIVEROS IS NOT MY SENATOR.
On Agrarian Reform
She lobbied for the passage of a fake agrarian reform bill. She co-authored the CARPER Bill or the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms Bill. CARPER is a fake agrarian reform bill that is worse than the existing CARP that will benefit the already rich landlords especially the Arroyos, Aquinos and Cojuangcos. Why would PGMA ask her allies in the Congress to immediately pass the bill? Because CARPER is designed to fail. Lands will not be distributed. She is not for the farmers.
MY SENATOR SHOULD SUPPORT THE CAUSE OF THE FARMERS AND THE OTHER SECTORS OF THE SOCIETY. RISA HONTIVEROS IS NOT MY SENATOR.
On Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza
She is “stupid.” Red-baiting is a cheap tactic. She parrots the line of the AFP that Liza Maza and Satur Ocampo are leaders of CPP-NPA. Can’t she just accept the truth? The Supreme Court of the Philippines already proved and decided that Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza are not in any way connected to NPA. This decision was supported by the United Nations and the US Government. Risa Hontiveros is investing on negative campaigning. Shooting other targets down to gain votes. Pathetic.
MY SENATOR SHOULD NOT TELL LIES. MOVE ON! RISA HONTIVEROS IS NOT MY SENATOR.
On Traditional Politics
Hontiveros is a traditional politician. Proof? What can you say about her TV advertisements? It’s all about the mysterious and unsubstantiated “Magandang Laban.” What the hell is “Magandang Laban?” Instead of presenting her plans or her platform on her Ads, sumasayaw lang siya at nagpapa-endorse sa mga sikat na tao. MAGANDANG LABAN?
MY SENATOR SHOULD PROMOTE PRO-PEOPLE PLATFORM-BASED POLITICS. RAISE THE LEVEL OF POLITICS! RISA HONTIVEROS IS NOT MY SENATOR.
On Tactical Alliance with the Liberal Party
Why is Risa Hontiveros with Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas? Why is she with Ralph Recto (EVAT)? Noy-Mar are rabid supporters of the US neoliberal policies. She and her partylist keep on denouncing the US neoliberal policies and E-VAT. They considered it as evil. But what happened? Why is she with Noynoy and Mar? With Ralph Recto? What kind of tactical alliance is this? Makasama na lang. Pagandahan na lang ng laban.
MY SENATOR SHOULD BE PRINCIPLED, FIRM AND CONSISTENT. HE/SHE SHOULD ALSO PROMOTE A PRO-FILIPINO SYSTEM OF ECONOMY. RISA HONTIVEROS IS NOT MY SENATOR.
Risa Hontiveros is not the people’s senator. An opportunistic and fake nationalist leader-legislator is not what we need in this time of poverty and corruption. Sino ba dapat ang nasa Senado? ALAM NA!

For the Holy Week: Liberation Theology
Two days of additional vacation is really something to look forward to especially in this kind of situation. Trabaho, bahay, trabaho. Pero I would just like to leave a short note for you Christians to take note of for this Holy Week.
Tandaan nating ang mga disciples ni Hesus ay hindi mga “educated” cabinet members from the top universities or from the prominent families, they came from the basic sectors of the society. They are chosen and called by Jesus to be his apostles. He never lived in a mansion kagaya ng tinitirhan ng Pope o kahit man lang ang mga napakaraming napakalaking simbahan. He lived with the people at nakisama sa kanila. We could never blame Jesus for being pro-poor. The kingdom of God is dedicated to them. That’s what the Bible says. He challenged the emperor and even the High Priest. Jesus himself lived like a poor, in real material poverty, not a spiritual one. His criterion of a just life was practical material aid for one's neighbor. He was executed by the order of the Church authority that felt threatened in its organization and power. This is not a social analysis, this is the Bible not taken out of its context.
This is a parallelism between the violet season and the red march. Pagpupugay sa Liberation Theology!
"Authentic socialism is Christianity lived to the full, in basic equality and with a fair distribution of goods."

Who’s Cleve?
We had an activity in our speech communications class that tries to check, reinforce or negate (whichever is applicable) our self concepts. Self concept is a combination of what we think of ourselves and what others thinks of us and many other factors depending on the type of theory that you will use.
Written anonymously, my classmates and our speech communications instructor wrote their concept of who or what CLEVE is. I find it interesting. Here it is (My classmates are Political Science, Organizational Communication, Biochemisty, Biology, and Pharmacy majors):
*I hope that Comm3 is helping you or preparing you in a way for law school. I know that you will be an excellent lawyer.
Cleve is a nice, prim and proper guy ... I kinda like guys like you who are not 'dirty' to look at .. :)
Hi! You seem smart and sensible to talk to. I hope you're approachable too. :)
Looks very smart yet actually funny when conversed with.
Hello, Gaaa. I'm not good at this. lol. Well, lurker ako sa blog mo and I love reading your entries. =) Keep them comin'.
You seem to have many talents and I find you smart especially about politics. I hope we can also converse because I find you very interesting. I guess you are funny, too.
You seem to be smart and approachable. You look like my high school friend (except that you are taller)! =)
Cleve ---> Clever. Haha. First impression ko sa'yo, your face was familiar so I was curious about how you talk to people. Okay naman pala. =)
You seem to think very practical and critical. I find it good but sometimes, I believe there are things beyond what we know and cannot be justified with facts. =) I also find you quiet.
I beg to disagree ha, but he's not prim and proper. I have to say among all here in class, I know you best. I appreciate your kind and thoughtful gestures towards me. Kahit na we tend to clash your opinions, silently you've been a good friend. God Bless! -Aaron. =) <3
Cleve! Ang galing mo bilang isang PolSci student. Keep up the good work and keep smiling! =) <3
Very smart and outspoken. A person who knows what he wants in life ... =) But sometimes he's quiet.
You're my idol when it comes to current events and trivias ... =) You're a certified political scientist >_<
Clevey! Hi sis! Nyahaha! Ang kulit mo lang. =) Yun lang. Peace. =)
Wooh... smart and friendly ... though nung una, I thought masungit ka. :D
You're very smart and also socially conscious. We're not close so sometimes i get mahiyain to you. But I think you're a good friend. I like your polo. =) Bev
Being an atheist and having him in the same class as I am is kind of a new thing. But you seem fine, not that I think of atheist as not okay individuals.
You have the potential of being a student leader!
Haller Cleve! You're a really smart person. Pero friendly din naman. =) Aja! <3
Strong. Tibak much. Friend? Not sure. (Haha!) Aral mabuti! God Bless!
Cleve! You really have good ideas. Keep it up. Hugs and kisses and love. :)))
I can imagine how sociable you really are .. you look like a good kid. *u*
SMART. MAY PANINIDIGAN. PALABAN. Tatakbo kang sc? Takbo na! =) BLU
What do you think guys? The one with the asterisk is our instructor's comment. This course is very enjoyable. You get to learn new things that can be applied daily. And I feel so connected to all the topics. This will be one of those courses that I will remember forever. Plus the instructor who's always willing to hear your comments and answer your questions.
But if you're single and valentine's day is already there, I think your self concept will be something synonymous to the loneliest person in the world.

The Coming of the New Decade
A new decade is coming. Another ten years of happiness, of sadness, of love, of failure, of success--of life. What will happen ten years from now? We don't know. No one knows. What we all know is that we are entering a new phase of our life. Will this decade be as good as the last? Will this decade be as bad as the last? The past determines our future. As we are nearing that new decade, i will try to re-collect my year, my 2009. What happened the whole year? What are the most winning moments? The fail ones? I tried to recollect the five most Epic Win and Epic Fail moments of my life--this year.
2009 Epic Fail
NO FUN RUN
I'm already on my second year now but I still have to attend that run. It stays on my mind. I don't want this thing to stop me from graduating. I feel bad whenever I remember this thing. I don't want this thing to stay on my mind forever. This redefined my future. I have to take another PE 1 FPF class again in the future. And that's Epic Fail!
MATH ELEVEN
I hate Mathematics. I hate Math Eleven more. I took a removals exam for a 4.00 grade in this course twice. I was able to pass it. But I was not able to erase that mark in my transcript. It will stay their forever. A memory. A remembrance. A mark. It will always tell me that I'm never that good. Damn. One of my downs last semester.
SECOND SEMESTER SCHEDULE
My schedule this semester is really epic. I got a major different schedule compared to my friends this semester. I don't have friends to accompany me. You know how it feels, right? No one to walk with, to talk with. Haha. I'm getting so emo here. I eat lunch alone. I walk in the mall alone. I'm not that type of person. I always want someone to be with me. I'm talkative. You can't talk unless you're with somebody, right? CRS, you're an epic fail. You should know that by now. The good thing is, I get home early.
CELLPHONE
If you haven't heard yet, I lost my phone recently. I left it in the Jeep. That was my first ever postpaid phone. I miss it. You don't have to buy load, I enjoy unlimited internet surfing and I can call anyone. There's something different when you're on postpaid than on prepaid. But my old cellphone is still awesome.
PLANNER
I failed. I was not able to sustain my eagerness to write in my planner until the end of this year. I stopped. Because I'm lazy like that.
YOU
No questions. You know who you are. :)
2009 Epic Win
FIRST IN FIVE YEARS
After five years, to be precise, after elementary years, I've achieved something academic-related again. I was looking for this when I was still in High School. But I failed. I graduated with nothing at all. Just a plain-your average-type-of-student type. This is an academic achievement. Don't tell me I'm over-reacting. One of the ups this year! A College Scholar, an academic achievement at last.
FBCP
Freshman Block Coordination Program. I'm so proud that I got in here in this program. I'm so proud of my FBCP family. I miss them. Everything that you need is already here. The laughs, the love, the friendship, the sadness, the commitment, the failure. Everything. A family.
BASIC MASS INTEGRATION
I joined a BMI activity for our Political Science 14 class. We went to Bulacan and stayed for two days and a night in an upland farming village there. We live with the people there. It's so nice to be with them. Their simplicity will awe you. Happiness is really that simple. This activity changed me. Changed my life. I joined Anakbayan because of this. Proud to be! Lumalakas, Lumalawak, Lumalaban!
CLEVEARGUELLES dotcom
I'm giving this part of my life two points for epic win moments. Yes, two points. I'm so happy that someone did offered me mainstream blogging. Thanks Kuya JC, Kuya Tonyo and Kuya Alps.
Don't overdo your 2010 guys. I know this post is not that good. I will try to do another year-ender. Definitely.
Luck will be on us! Definitely.
Welcome 2010!
Leave me some love. Tell me you pass by!
