Sa Kambas ng Lipunan

No Gravatar

I attended a values-formation seminar by a government office. You know, my mom keeps telling me that i "don't have values." Well, mom, that's impossible. We just don't have the same "values." But, anyways, let's proceed to the seminar.

The facilitator (Sorry, I can't disclose names) who happens to be a head of a particular bureau in this government office gave a presentation on values-formation specifically targeted to the youth. That's cool, right? Kidding. I just want to share my insights and probably criticize how the "facilitator" tried to develop our values as a youth.

He asked us to watch a clip. Panoorin mo na rin:

Sa Kambas ng Lipunan

And then what? He asked the participants their reactions slash their realizations after watching the clip. Right after the clip. Emphasis please. Right after the clip. After which, he summarized the realizations of the participants and addressed this to the whole group.

"Hapag ng Pag-asa"

Facilitator:

"What's the cause of poverty? The I. He attributes poverty as a result of combined individual selfish actions. He blames the I. No one should be blamed here except for the I."

"He is conditioning the participants to be apathetic. How? He's imposing on the participants the "we're-fortunate-pa-nga-that-we-eat-three-times-a-day-attitude" and let others care for themselves. Okay na nga tayo dito. Dapat hindi na tayo magreklamo. We don't have the right to complain. We're living a better life than theirs."

"There's no call to action but rather a call to be complacent. Appreciate what you have. That's already good. Kung sila nga ay hindi kumakain at ikaw ay tuyo lang ang kinakain, dapat matuwa ka na. At least, you have something to eat. Kahit tuyo pa yan, at least, you're living a better life. "

"Kapag may nakasalubong kang may car, what do you feel? Inggit? You shouldn't be. You should think of others. Bakit ako maiingit sa kanila? Marami nga na hindi kumakain. Why would I want to have a car?"

"With all of that, we need a leader that will do something. We need a leader. A leader with heart. Not just a good leader but a leader with a good heart."

With all those points, I was like, what the hell is this? Is this really a values-formations seminar or just some political propaganda slash conditioning of the status quo? The said facilitator is known to be a supporter of President-elect Aquino. Kaya nung sinabi niya yung last point, Oh My God! That can't be! You're all conditioning our minds! And everyone is agreeing! OH MY!

My points:

You just can't attribute poverty as the sum of all selfish individual actions. Why don't you show and tell us the real cause of poverty? It's easy, very easy. Why can't you tell these participants that poverty is a result of a systematic oppression of a ruling status quo. Why can't you? Ang daming resources ng Pilipinas but we're still poor. Nasaan ang resources? Please tell me. Why can't you tell the participants that Imperialism should be blame? That capitalism is a systemic form of keeping all in poverty poor and making the rich richer. You can't tell me you don't know. Bakit may nagugutom? We are in the Pacific Ocean (where are the fishes), we have forests (where are the animals, the fruits and the vegetables), we have arable lands and we own a vast reserve of natural minerals. Ano? INDIVIDUAL ACTIONS PA RIN BA? OR SYSTEMIC SIYA?

Why would you condition the participants to just be "okay" and leave things the way they are? After watching this clip, what we need is a call to action! ACTION! You'll tell these people to do their job and look for solutions. You'll not tell them to just appreciate what they have and don't complain. Remember, inaction results to the strengthening of the present system slash condition. Or yun naman talaga ang gusto mo? Do you really want people to stay poor? Eating "tuyo" is not my definition of being fortunate specially when you try to contextualize it. Why can other people afford expensive foods? Why can't I? Sa dami ng available na resources, bakit may gutom? Don't tell me they're just too lazy. They're not. There's something wrong. And we should address that. What we have to do is to find alternative solutions. Let's try to change the present system and let these people eat. Let's try to pressure the government and let them address this. There's so much to do than to say "Hey, I'm okay here." INEQUALITY MUST BE ADDRESSED.

And the clip is trying to insert some religious agenda in it. It's fine. It's good. Ang tanong nga lang e. If people are really believing in Jesus Christ, why is there inequality? In a supposedly Christian country, bakit may kahirapan? Bakit may nagugutom? It's weird, right? CHRISTIANITY IS A RELIGION OF EQUALITY. WELL, SUPPOSEDLY.

And with all those points, leadership must be contextualized. With the present problems, you need to contextualize what kind of leader we need. Ano nga ba? Siguro, those who want poverty to be eradicated, those who want to solve these things and those who recognize the "real problems" and willing to change the present system of oppression. Yung kakalaban sa status quo. Yung kakalaban sa Imperyalismo. Yung kakalaban sa Kapitalismo. Those are the qualities na kailangan ay meron ang leader. Inequality must be addressed by this leader. At kilala niyo naman sila, for sure. Hello, Satur. Hello, Liza. Hello, KABATAAN. Hello, National Democrats.

Figure it out, people. I know you're not that stupid. Lalo na yung kasama ko ng values-formation seminar.

The Late Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran

P.S. It's Crispin Beltran's Day Today! Kilala niyo siya? He is a genuine, militant, and anti-Imperialist labor leader. See? That's what I'm talking about.

P.S. I will receive a compensation just for attending this particular seminar. Woah! Time for some good pasta!

P.S. Wala na akong proofreader and grammar checker. Poor me.

Of Planners and Plans

No Gravatar

Next semester, I have been planning to do many things. I even asked my friend Des Santos to make a deal that one has to follow its  to do list religiously. A fine should be given if the list will not be followed. One of the things in this list is to use my planner religiously. I'm liking the word religiously. I actually have two planners for this year. I was able to use them but I  got tired that I stopped using them after a good three months. I was disappointed. I want the OC Planner type of person.

UP Planner

I own a planner by the UP Diliman Centennial University Student Council. I bought it for 350 pesos or 400 pesos? I can't remember. I have this mild memory loss when it comes to prices. Its actually good and formal. Not very formal, just executive-ish.

UP Planner

UP Planner

I can't find a picture of a real sample of the planner in the net. I'm too lazy to take pictures of it and upload it on PC. It's just too complicated. I was able to use it as a journal. It served as a diary of some sort for me. It also served as my accounts sheet. I wrote my daily and future expenses there. I also tried to collect all the receipts just to make sure that all is written. But when my expenses got complicated and I can't keep track of my transactions, I stopped using this. Its easy to be lazy.

Blogberry Planner

I also own a planner from the Stradmore. Des Santos convinced me to buy this planner because it's suited to college students. I was convinced even if it meant another unnecessary expense for me. The looks and the features inside are so tempting. I bought the Stradmore's Blogberry University Lifestyle Planner. Its about 300 or 400 pesos. I can't remember.

PastedGraphic3.3JBBS0iJkj6j

Blogberry University Lifestyle Planner (Stradmore)

It's distributed by the ever-reliable National Bookstore. I bought the green one because it's my favorite color. I used it as my scheduler and my goal planner. It's useful for students because it's patterned after the academic year. I write my 'goals to achieve' here. After a month,  I will do a self-evaluation. Its quite fulfilling. But it requires a lot of work. I'm too lazy to do it every now and then. After two months, I stopped. I realized I can't maintain a journal or a planner. Saaaad. But I will try to change that lifestyle next semester. This has to be a planner semester.

----

I have been thinking also if I should work again as a student assistant. This time, I want to work in the Graduate Program Office of the College of Arts and Science or GPAS. I need to buy a new phone. My current phone reboots itself whenever it wants to. It also has this 'sim card registration failed' syndrome. I hate this phone but I can't buy a replacement.  I still have a spare phone as part of my postpaid freebie but that phone is like a stone age phone. It hangs whenever I tried to send multiple messages. It sucks. Talking about my postpaid. I'm trying to control myself because my previous bill is 1,700 pesos. I pay my own bills. I can't maintain a plan like that. Anyway, let's all enjoy our semestralbreak!

I plan not to go to the memorial park this coming all soul's/saint's day. I'm not convinced why do I have to visit them.

Manila Science

manila science high school logo

Manila Science High School celebrated its founding anniversary yesterday. With its theme "MaSci at 46:  Stakeholder's Empowerment: Strengthening Linkages," the organizers (parent-teachers association, faculty and students)  made the foundation day fun through its food stalls, booths (as usual), field demonstrations and year level contests. I was with some fellow alumni. We enjoyed scrutinizing the newcomers in MaSci, the first year students. We also enjoyed the booths particularly the jail booth. I also ended up paying the students managing the handcuffs booth to make our friends victims. We're also trying to convince the jail guards to let the prisoners go. Kawawa naman kasi e, most of the prisoners wala ng pera. I helped my brother escaped! Most of the time, we're unsuccessful dahil the first year students are hesitant rin. First year students are so obedient that I want to make them discipline guards in North Korea! Sobra.

A little bit of MaSci history. Manila Science High School was established through Republic Act 1606 issued by President Ramon Magsaysay who felt the need of a pilot science high school who will cater to the development of the fundamental and applied sciences and through Manila Mayor Antonio Villegas Municipal Resolution 426. It was patterned after Bronx High School of Science in New York, the special science curriculum is designed to meet the needs of scholars gifted in science and mathematics. Until now, Manila Science High School remains as one of the country's top science high school. For more information, visit www.manilascience.edu.ph.

I miss high school student life.

Missing Friends

I was with Lanie the whole time. I just realized that I only have few real friends from high school. But these real friends are really real. (Whaaaat?) Lanie's currently taking up Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in the University of the City of Manila or PLM. I enjoyed the conversation that we had. I even shared to her my recent experience of being an activist. Ang dami naming napag-kuwentuhan. Galing! All branches of life! Kudos to your mom! She really is the heartless girl of Kanye West.  I was also with Justine Joy who is currently taking up BS Accountancy in the same school. Good luck!

I miss my friends.

Major No-No!

I'm quite sad. I think I will not be able to take up Law immediately after college. I'm not sure if I will be able to support myself financially. Woo! Talk about skyrocketing fees! I'm also losing my interest in studying laws. I'm more into political science now. Oh, God!

I miss myself.

I will be writing a semester-ender tomorrow. Wait. I'm hearing rumors about a particular cheating case in the University, major cheating daw. Let's not compromise the principles and the reputation of our beloved university.

1. Why do they post Cupid's picture inside the church?

Cupid is a Roman/Greek God. Study humanities. What are you thinking anyway? Cupid is not St. Valentine. Study your religion.

2. On being agnostic, an atheist, and a deist.

Just for clear definitons. I know what an Agnostic and an Atheist is. What the hell is a Deist?

A deist is a person who believes (based solely on reason) in a God who created the universe and then abandoned it, assuming no control over life, exerting no influence on natural phenomena, and giving no supernatural revelation. In short, God created the universe. Afterwards, he disappeared!

An atheist is a person who disbelieves that there is an existing God or Supreme Being. This is easy. There is no God. That's clear!

An agnostic person believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God. One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism. We can't claim anything. We don't have the capabilities. Uncertainty in our knowledge claim.

3.  I feel something whenever I am in TriNoMa. I feel uncomfortable. I don't know why.

4. Bakit nanalo ang YES sa SR Referendum? HAHA. :)

Congratulations! And Boo!

No Gravatar

Congratulations!

There are few things that I need to commend.

Congrats Dad!

My dad will soon be promoted in his work. He's working in Dubai. We're/I'm proud of you! He is an architect/Auto Cad Operator in a government company in Dubai. Note: Almost 80% percent of companies in Dubai are government-owned/owned by the ruling/royal family. He works for Emirates Stone Co. Ltd. He handled projects like school housings, palm jumeira's landscaping (man-made island) and the likes.

Congrats Fix San Lazaro!

Since fourth year high school, I always have my haircut in Bench Fix in SM San Lazaro. Earlier today, I went there to have my haircut and I found out that there is something commendable. Usually, one stylist would attend to two customers at the same time. Nakakainis 'di ba? Pero ngayon, 'di na! From what I see, the number of stylist is tripled including the crews who shampoo's and blow dry your hair.

Congrats Nokia!

Nokia launched its new phone today. Nokia's long-awaited touchscreen phone is unlikely to give Apple CEO Steve Jobs any sleepless nights. Nokia's 5800 XpressMusic, also known as the Nokia Tube, comes with unlimited access to Nokia's music service. And yes, it bears a strong resemblance to the iPhone. But like T-Mobile's Android-based G1, the 5800 is just the first volley in a larger strategy. The touchscreen phone will be among the first devices from Nokia's stable to support Comes with Music, a Nokia service that offers one year of unlimited access to the company's music store catalog.

Boo!

There are also few things that are far from being commendable.

Boo Catholic Church!

I'm not an atheist. I'm a Catholic. I'm just very annoyed by the way they are announcing their stand (anti) regarding the Reproductive Health Bill. "The bill allows abortion to be legal." I don't think so. "It also legalizes the use of contraceptives which is very contrary to God's given life to us. "He used the Holy Spirit to give us life, only He through the Holy Spirit can take it away from us." Contraceptives are making us safe, I think. We are on the 21st century na, c'mon! Can we move on? They are also persuading church goers to sign a petition against the Reproductive Health Bill. Is this what we call the Separation of State and Church? Or the intervention of the church in state matters? Or is this divine intervention? I beg to differ.

Boo SM San Lazaro!

Upon entering the mall I thought I've mistaken SM from Divisoria. I always hate sales. Lalo na yung mga 3 day sales dahil madami talaga ang tao. There are too much people inside that you will expect the mall to collapse on an instance. Few people are buying. Most of the people inside are just roaming around. Dapat may entrance fee eh! I just wish Bonifacio High Street, Powerplant and Galleria are not ocean's away from our home.

UP won!

No Gravatar

It was a fresh victory for UP Fighting Maroons Men's Basketball Team on their first game on the 71st season of UAAP. UP was expected to win since NU Bulldogs were a no-match to hungry players of UP Fighting Maroons. Most members of the UAAP commitee agreed on that thing as they were interviewed after the game. "Ang UP Centennial nila, naghanda yan, hindi basta basta magpapabaya." Taken from an interview with one of the commitees.

People haven’t forgotten their winless performance last year, and have used this to dismiss this squad as this generation’s version of last generation’s NU. However, the UAAP has a way of turning the tables on unsuspecting individuals.

A simple win is good, a couple of wins is momentous, but getting into the Final Four is nothing but a miracle for the men's basketball team of UP Fighting Maroons. he ya! Mananalo kami! ASA. =)

Too bad ADMU won. T_T Animo LA SALLE!

UP FIGHT!

[matatapang, matatalino, walang takot

kahit kanino, hinding hindi magpapahuli..

ganyan kaming mga taga UP!]
